validator
A participant who verifies transactions and secures a blockchain network.
A validator is a computer operator who checks that cryptocurrency transactions are legitimate and adds them to the blockchain ledger. In blockchain networks that use “proof of stake,” validators lock up their own cryptocurrency as collateral—if they approve fraudulent transactions, they lose money. This financial risk encourages honest behavior.
When you see “validator” in headlines, it usually means the story involves how the blockchain stays secure and decentralized. A healthy network needs many independent validators so no single entity controls transaction approval. If validators become too concentrated or start misbehaving, it can weaken the network’s integrity and trustworthiness.
